A celebration of the work of wood engraver Garrick Palmer
19th September – 12th October 2013
At the Emma Mason Gallery, Eastbourne

Artist and wood engraver, Garrick Palmer celebrates his 80th birthday this autumn and to mark the occasion the Emma Mason Gallery are holding an exhibition of his work.

On show will be a range of wood engravings spanning Garrick’s long and successful career. We are also delighted to be able to show some of his original printing blocks and tools. Over the years Garrick has also produced many beautiful book illustrations for publishers such as the Folio Society and we will have copies of these books on display. This will include a copy of “Land” published by the Old Stile Press which features many of Garrick Palmer’s early wood engravings of landscapes. Garrick Palmer, was born in Portsmouth in 1933. He studied at Portsmouth College of Art and Design (1951-55) and then at the Royal Academy (1955-59). He taught at Winchester School of Art from 1958-86 and became Head of the Foundation Department. In 2011 a retrospective exhibition of Garrick Palmer’s work was held at the Pallant House Gallery in Chichester. His work is held in many private and public collections.
