More information on the Oxmarket Website. ![]() Howard Hodgkin Members who haven’t already done so might be interested to see the Howard Hodgkin exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery, which finishes on 14 Feb and includes some sample plates with information about the sugar lift and carborundum techniques used to make two of the very large prints included in the show. At Pallant House there is an exhibition of textiles designed by Henry Moore with sketches and details of the screen printing methods used in the production. This ends on 21 February. Omega Printmaker Des Kilfeather will be exhibiting at the 3rd Floor Gallery, Portsmouth Central Library from 2 March – 5 April 2010. Des Kilfeather has made a series of 16 watercolours that interrogate the perpetual cultural relevance of Dubliners and offer a fresh metaphorical interpretation. The watercolours were then scanned, photography and digitally handwritten text added to make further digital montage works that bring his interpretation into a late twentieth and early twenty first century cultural context. This exhibition comprises hung prints, montage and Des Kilfeather’s artist’s book James Joyce Dubliners – A Visual Response, in an Edition of 15. More information is at http://www.a-n.co.uk/interface/whatson/single/591315/1 We are aiming to use non-toxic methods of printmaking at Omega Street in the long term. In the New Year we will be encouraging the use of a mixture of washing up liquid, cooking oil and water in place of white spirit, parcel tape on the back of plates instead of straw hat varnish with etching ground replacing straw hat for sugar lift. There will be explanatory notices in the studios. Greening Southsea, which aims to get the good people of Southsea to commit to 8 pledges in order to reduce their carbon footprints, is going to be launched with an event on Southsea Common next April. Part of the campaign is to get community groups to interpret the pledges at the launch event. To that end I have suggested to the Greening Southsea committee that we have an exhibition of work by local artists at the launch. The work would need to be based around one or more of the eight pledges which are:
The current plan is to hold the launch event in a marquee on the common so all work would be under cover. The event would be open to all and will be a good opportunity to get your work seen by a diverse range of people. More information about the greening campaign is attached. Please let me know (Jon Spencer) if you would be interested in taking part. See the Greening Southsea Leaflet for more information. Jane Shepherd, Katayoun Dowlatshahi, Elizabeth Bick and Patti Gaal-Holmes There will be tea and cakes, work for sale – photography, drawings, prints, cards etc. and a daily screening of films.
